 Displaying Categories & Forums

First-time admin/moderator/"gamemaster"-in-training, here...

Just joined Jcink; preparing extra-early for a Survivor RPG/ORG to launch in January 2019.

https://survivoregypt.jcink.net/index.php?

The good news is that (I think!) I've figured out how to create individual Categories and Forums for my upcoming board, using my Admin CP. Which is my important first step on this journey.

The bad news is that, while I'm able to personally view those Forums and Categories that I've created from "Forum Control" / "Manage Forums" -- I can't seem to get the Categories and Forums themselves to display on my actual board (see the above link).

After I've figured that out, I'm going to need to also figure out how to hide certain forums from specific members (I haven't pre-registered the individual contestant avatars yet, so that's probably a headache for another day...)

P.S. -- I know virtually NOTHING about coding, so if someone could also point me to the location of any tutorials when it comes to functions such as uploading custom skins, creating new member/avatar profiles, etc., I'd be greatly appreciative.

But first things first: how do I get my actual Categories & Forums to visibly display on the board proper?

I read through the Permission Masks wiki section, but honestly I can't make heads or tails out of it...

The name before 'Forum Mask' is the group you are editing permissions for.

What if I want to have different permissions set for individual Members, based on how far they've advanced in the game?

Also, is editing permissions pretty much a moot point until I've actually pre-registered each individual Member (and their corresponding avatar)?

Admin Forum Mask - can read, start new threads, reply to existing threads and upload file attachments to the board (if the board owner chooses so).

Banned Forum Mask - this is the permission mask for members who have been banned from the board. This is usually the member group that does not have access to anything on the board.

Guest Forum Mask - Unregistered users, who usually can just read board's content(s) or just see what's on the board, based on board owner's choice.

Member Forum Mask - it's the permission mask associated with registered members on the board. Basically what the Admin Forum Mask is, unless the Admin Forum Mask allows for the admin(s) to view content that's only available for them and upload file attachments to the board (if the board owner chooses so).

Validating Forum Mask - if you have set up that when someone registers, they must validate their e-mail address via the link that arrives to their e-mail inbox, then they remain in the Validating Member Group until they don't activate their accounts. Additionally, in the board settings, you can either set up that no account validation is required for newly registered members or that an admin validation of the newly registered member is required - in which case, you as the board owner can decide weather that member gets trough or not. The Validating Forum Mask goes along with those settings choices and is usually a slightly more restricted version of the Member Forum Mask.

At least that's how I do the permission masks.

I hope this helps.
